Tympa Health Technologies Ltd

About

The Tympa system is a unique portable, all-in-one hearing assessment tool. It combines:
• video otoscopy to record high-definition digital imnages of patients’ ear drums
• wax removal if required via microsuction
• a comprehensive hearing assessment

Clinicians can also upload images and videos of patients to share with audiology and ENT specialists for advice and guidance.

This is backed up by a fully digital secure system for keeping patient records, which can be quickly and easily shared, via a professional PDF, with ENT surgeons, audiologists or GPs, should the patient need onward specialist treatment.

The TympaHealth system helps deliver ear and hearing health directly into the community. Increases accessibility for patients and reducing the outpatient waiting time.

Key Facts

The Tympa system is use use across multiple NHS Trusts and is being used in both Secondary and Primary Care settings. The system is also extensively used in the private sector (Audiology, Opticians, Care homes & Pharmacy) To date the Tympa system has seen more than 250,000 patients.

Successes in UK/NHS

Tympa is the case study for elective recovery for ENT services as featured in the NHSX playbooks. The system has enabled a UK first unique Teleotology platform at UCLH hospital where patients are invited for a triage appointment in the community which is carried out by the UCLH audiology team using the Tympa system. Images and videos are reviewed digitally by a UCLH ENT consultant acting as an effective triage and allowing prioritisation of the elective care waiting list. A new pilot project is going live with South West London ICS in September 2022 which aims to transform the pathway of patients experiencing hearing and or earwax related problems. The new pathway sees a patient signposted to TympaHealth accredited Community Pharmacy where a full ear and hearing health check will take place where earwax is removed with the Tympa device via microsuction where necessary before a discharge notification or summary is send back to the GP for any further action. This aims to significantly reduce both the average patient wait time for treatment as well as demonstrate a significant cost saving for the ICS as well as reduce time for Primary and Secondary care clinicians when compared to the standard of care pathway. In the private sector there are already multiple sectors deploying Tympa to help deliver more accessible ear and hearing health services.
