About
The service manages up to 75% of patients remotely, freeing up capacity for patients who need in-person visits. The remote platform increases clinical capacity and flexibility, allowing hospitals to focus their resources where patients need them most.
During COVID-19, many hospitals had to limit, or close, their routine outpatient services, to concentrate on their inpatients. Inside Trusts, where Medefer operated, we successfully managed outpatients, allowing them to remain open at a critical time. This ensured that those with urgent cases, including potential cancer diagnoses, could receive care.
Our HSJ Award winning partnership, with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, led to over 6,500 referrals being managed during the pandemic. This reduced RTT by 1%, as the national RTT increased by 40%. The average new referral triage was 35 hours from referral. 2.8% of patients were quickly upgraded onto the 2-week-wait/rapid-access pathway. This resulted in 7 positive cancer cases that would otherwise not have been diagnosed until much later.
We are playing a vital role in supporting hospitals as they recover from the pandemic. With some patients waiting months, even years for treatment, we enable the quick review and management of these patients to help hospitals dramatically reduce their backlog.
Key Facts
68% in person attendance reduction 21% discharge to GP after first review 3% of patients upgraded to 2 week wait pathway 1.8 days from referral to first assessment
Successes in UK/NHS
We work with a number of NHS clients. Some examples of our success include Isle of Wight NHS Trust and The Braking, Havering and Redbridge University Trust. The waiting time for a 1st outpatient appointment at the Trust now standing at 5 weeks. By utilising a virtual out-patient service, BHRUT created the resilience to be the only RTT compliant gastroenterology out-patient department nationally during the pandemic.Company details
